Week 12 Are We There Yet?

Yes we are! It has been a huge effort but looking back - very worthwhile.
Social Networking has certainly "Come of Age" I am fascinated to see the Power House Museum site and the things they are doing there.
The work in the UK for Local Government by attempting to share problems ideas and expertise must be a good thing. We have all tried to get through to Local Govt at various times and most of us are employed by one or two Councils. This idea could give greater transparency there too.
I believe we as Librarians must encourage Social Networking by being involved if possible. In that way take our product to the people in a way they find interesting and easy to understand. If they can can relate to the message it would break down some of those barriers that exist now. As well people have time to browse a message or promotion but may not come into the library just to find out what is happening and perhaps be delayed for some time.
I expect to use a number of the presented methods of communication and ways to access information learned from 2.0 I have also gained an insight into what others are using and why and how they may be presenting information to me in the future.
Thanks All.

Week 11 Online Applications and Tools

Online Applications/Tools
This too was a useful and amazing section. I had no idea there were free online softwware worth downloading and so many in number as well.
Why do we often think "free" means not worth having or unsafe? I guess that would be one reason I have not investigated this before.
The fact some programs do not do as much as the software on my computer is possibly an advantage in some ways.
Being able to work with others is a bonus and sharing would be useful as you could access a number of opinions quickly and easily.
Google Docs seemed better to me. More straight forward and user friendly

Week 10 Mashup

Week 10

Mashups are used to combine data.It turns out they are also alot of fun to play around with. Google maps are very interesting. We do not need a map in this tiny town but it would be useful to list points of interest Historical or otherwise for tourists and visitors.
Love experimenting with images.Could be fantastic for display posters, banners and general promotion.Creative without having great drawing and lettering skills. I have always enjoyed this type of challenge but had to do it the hard way.
A great lesson and has given me heaps of information about where to access images. Knew they were there somewhere but could not locate them.
There is great potential for promotion if we were allowed to initiate this.
Achieved a mash up and added to blog to-day.

Week 9

Podcasts and Audio. Audio or Visual or both as in Vodcast
Audio are transportable eg IPod/Mp3 Player. Can be used to catch up on missed broadcasts, interviews from linked sites or downloaded items.Great to take your lessons with you if completing a course of study. Must be great for train and other travellers in city. Podcasts could be used to promote library events and exhibitions to clients. Should be used for staff training.
This brings us to Vod casts from the Internet. Also usefull as training and educational tool. Short audios on a new exhibition/event about to be shown would tempt people to come along. Again useful for short training courses for staff. I see a use here to promote our new digitisation project which is happening across our regional libraries.

Week 8 Booklist

My Books

Week 8

Answer boards and social searching. The idea of sharing and free knowledge markets is interesting. Tried out the answer boards with questions and answers as well as Yahoo!7Answers.
There could be a role in our Library for "Slamming the Boards" and especially between public and staff in our Regional Library circuit.
Reviews of planning past and present.
Patrons able to rate items as well.
Would be useful as a method to find a quick fix/answer to a question for borrowers. Everyone is time poor these days and most require an answer NOW

Answer boards Librarians" appears to be out at the moment.
